Yes, he ate staples!!! This date and this time! I will never ever forget this date! Actually 11 Dec adelah date engagement Mommy and Babah, which is kitorg pun tak berape amik port sgt pun... Tapi from now on, this date memang akan sentiase dalam ingatan.... Aariz... Aariz.. jangan buat lagi ye sayang... Aariz mintak la nak makan ape pun, kat hotel mane pun, insyaAllah Mommy akan cuba dapatkan... Asalkan JANGAN MAKAN STAPLES LAGI... huhuh... berderai airmata Mommy kalo ingat balik sume ni... =(
Mase tu we were in my in-law's house. Aariz was busy running here and there and my eyes were always on him... But once in a while, checking on Zaim too, to make sure he didn't do anything dangerous.
We were happy to watch Hi-5, singing and dancing together, until suddenly Aariz stand up and ran away from me. Usually when he found something 'illegal' to eat, he will find somewhere else to hide himself to eat it. So I quickly chased him and gotcha! He laughed and suddenly he started to cough, and a staple coming out from his mouth...
OMG! and OMG! and OMG lagi!
Antara nak percaya ke tidak. Macam mimpi pon ade... Rase panic nak jerit sekuat hati but nanti Aariz terkejut and takot plak... So I screamed like hell dalam hati je!!! What kind of mother am I for letting my baby ate a stapler in front of my eyes... Memang tak keruan time ni... Airmata dah bergenang... Sedih, pilu, risau, takot, sume ade... Marah pun ade, from where did he get the staples... Memang berkecamuk perasaan... But whatever pon I forced myself to stay calm... Aariz was still coughing and started to cry - he looks so uncomfortable and trying hard to take out something from his throat... and I was trying my best to save him on my own that time.... I pray hard to Allah, please don't make my baby stop breathing.... I told myself too....Jangan pengsan, Jangan pengsan... Pengsan nanti kemudian... Sekarang please jangan pengsan... Walopun time ni separuh view dah jadi kelabu, lutut pun macam dah longlai...
Then, I quickly handed my baby to my Bie, and told him, Aariz ate staples... He was shocked but remain calm and quickly hold Aariz, turn him onto his stomach, and tepuk2 and urut2 belakang Aariz, to get the staple to fall forward and out of the mouth. But it didn't work and Aariz mule menangis kuat... He wanted me to hold him. His face turns red and he was having difficulties to breath. At this time, I started to feel like losing him and he could not make it.... *tears...* I blame myself for not having a good knowledge in handling choking baby... Forgive Mommy, Aariz... *tears*
No... No way! No way! I will not give up... I don't want to lose my baby. So I stuck my finger in again and again, looking for it and finally I felt it... Then I get in deeper trying to take it out.. I don't know how many staples he had ate it but I will try to take it out as much as I can, as long as he can breath... Then Aariz vomit it out... I didn't check his vomit but quickly rushed to nearby clinic.... Aariz was hugging me tight....I feel guilty... *tears*
In the clinic, Aariz still hold me tight but he become so quiet... Mungkin dia terkejut jugak... I told doctor what had happen and he said he could not do anything. He said Aariz was lucky as he still can breath but we still need to do X-ray to check, since we don't know how much yang dia telan. If the staple go into his stomach then he safe as the staple will pop out together with his poo. But if the staple stuck at his lung, he is in trouble. God knows how miserable am I that time. Am lucky but not lucky enough... =(
A few minutes later, my maid told me, she saw few staples when cleaning Aariz's vomit. I feel a bit relief but I am not sure if Aariz had swallowed a few. Hopefully X-ray will show me the good news....
Then we headed to Pusrawi - Emergency for X-ray. His lung and stomach were clear but there was a blur image, look-alike staple was stuck at his throat.. One or two staples. Doctor and few others nurse were carefully analyze the image. They said, if that is a staple, the image should have a brighter image since it is metal. Oh do you know, the doctors said I am very lucky for having my baby swallow a metal-thing? I was like what???? How could you said am lucky when my baby is dying? Forgive me for being emotional... Actually what they mean are, it will be easier to trace the foreign object inside his body. If let say Aariz swallow non-metal thingy macam kacang ke toy ke, it will be hard to trace it using X-ray. I feel a bit relief but the 2 edges of the staple were sharp okay! How can you guys consider am lucky? Oh... pity my baby.
While we were in hospital, Aariz was getting better, started to run here and there... be friendly to other patient and nurses.... Somehow it made me feel better too... My instinct told me, I had taken all of the staple out.... But I don't want to be over confident. The ENT specialist told me, to have second X-ray. If the staples go down into his stomach, Aariz is safe, but if still stuck there, he will need to go to OT. =(
The second and third X-ray shows no sign of the staples inside Aariz's body. So most probably the image that we had seen in the first X-ray was not a staple. I am very happy to hear this.... Syukur Alhamdulillah. But the doctor suggest me to get second opinion. She was confident too, looking at Aariz being so active and happy in the hospital. Of course if something sharp stuck in our throat, we don't even can smile or swallow anything right? But Aariz can still finished his milk. He behave like nothing happen at all. The doctor suggest, in case the staple is still in his body, it will be good to check first if the hospital have the esophagoscope for baby. Mind you not every hospital have this tool. So we called several hospitals and lucky SDMC have one. So we rushed there... Oh do you know some of the hospitals were question me back "What is that thing? Esophagoscope? Never heard!" Stupid!
Aariz was sleeping all the way, he even still sleep when we reached there. Not even realized me putting him on emergency bed. Risau pun ade, ke dia pengsan ni... Selalu jugak la gerak-gerak kan dia... Respon dia macam biasela kalo kite alih dia time tido.. Legaa.... So I told doctor what had happen again. You know, everytime I told the doctor the story from beginning, I can't help feeling bad, guilty and sad. I also feel like the doctor must think that am worst Mommy in the world... But I must say, itu emosi saya sorg2 je... The 3 doctors and all the nurses from both hospital were calm and they not blaming me at all. As if this thing is normal. They even said, they had worst case than mine. Last case, telan jarum! Ya Allah, this is not easy situation and I do pray please don't let this thing happen to other Mommies out there...Berat sangat nak menanggungnye... I can't describe it in words... Trust me... *tears*
Then the doctor asked me to follow him to his place, leaving my baby who still sleeping in one of the emergency bed. I can't move even a single step... I don't want to leave him alone... Bie was busy at registration counter... Then, one of the nurse came to me, and promise she will help to look after Aariz... I saw she put extra pillows to make sure Aariz tak jatuh katil... Budak debab itu memang lasak tidonye.. The nurse then sit beside Aariz. Then only I left him... I tried my best to focus on Doctor's explanation. Satu satu doc explain pasal X-ray Aariz. I was happy when he said, he don't think that the foreign object in the first X-ray is a staple. Same like previous doctor, he said Aariz is too comfortable for something sharp stuck in his throat. So he don't think that the staple is still in his body. I told Bie and we were sooooo happy and feel soooo relief.... But we must still need to observe him the next day. If he start to refuse drink or eat and merengek2 ke, we must rush him back to hospital. But for now, we are safe.
Aariz still refuse to eat since last Aidilfitri. Sejak dari warded dulu, he only accept milk feeding. I pray to Allah, hope that the staples does not cause any injury to his throat, lung, tonsil or ape-ape jelah body part dia... so that he is clear from infection. My life was miserable ever since Aariz suffered bronchitis and tonsil infection. I can't describe the feeling, seeing my little baby refuse to eat anything for almost 3 months! Walopun skg Aariz is fully recovered from cough, and clear from all infection but he still refuse to eat. I tried to serve different types of food in every meals, but still he say "Nanak..." sambil pejam mata geleng-geleng kepale... I am sad because my baby was food lover... and I really miss to see he 'mamam' everything... Begging me to give him my food... "Nak... nak mamam... amam..." with his face expression yang nak sgt rase food tu... Yang kalo kite tak bagi, maka akan jadi puting beliung atas lantai... Since he was warded last October, I never heard this word anymore, never see that face anymore... Rindu sgt detik2 tu.... That's why now am really afraid if he start to refuse his milk... I can't imagine that.... I hope not....
We drove back home around 3.30 am, with Aariz yang masih lagi nyenyak in his carseat. Lena sungguh dia... Sampai rumah my mom, solat Isya' then told my mom everything that happen, and as expected my mom terkejut and nangis lah kan. Padanla dia kate dia taleh tido... Sebab tu tanak btau dia until we settle everything first. Nenny kalo hal cucu memang la camni... Terbatuk skit pun abis Mommy yang kene leter... Hehe layan dia bebel the whole nite! We both can't sleep until Subuh.
At 9 am, Aariz celik je mata, terus happily went into everyone's room to wake everyone up. That's my Happy Aariz. ;) Alhamdulillah. Mommy so glad nothing happen to you Sayang.... I am so sorry for what had happen and I swear I will try my best not to let this happen again.... The following day, Aariz minum and main macam biase... Sempat jugak pergi KLIMS 2010 in PWTC for our weekend outing and kat sane Aariz was running everywhere.... Will blog about this next. =)
End of our nightmare... Ya Allah, syukur Alhamdulillah. Syukur....
I know, you can put the blame on me... ;( Me too, can't forgive myself for what had happened. I wrote this here, for me to remember this and for others to be extra careful and not to repeat my mistake. Especially when we are at someone's place, we never know, the danger is at everywhere. I did some google, and found out that am not alone. A lot of Mommies out there share the same experience with me. Staples, battery, rubber duck... So many stories... Lucky nothing bad happen.
To babies out there, don't you ever try to eat staples.
It taste sucks... trust me...
Plus this action will make your Mommy cry and trauma...
I am sorry Mommy...
Love ya!
