This year, Zaim will be 4 and Aariz will be 2! And we both think, since we moved to new house, 2011 will be a good timing to let the boys sleep in their own room; a fresh start. Before buat this decision, macam-macam hal kene fikir since Aariz and Zaim are totally different sleeper...
THE HISTORY
Zaim is sooo used with co-sleeping. When he was baby, he sleeps with us most of the time. In the same room and on the same bed. We only moved him to his cot when he started to snore. I get up every 2 hours, to feed him and it really draining me... I feel like sleep-sharing really suit me well that time... Sambil tido, sambil nenen hehe... Kalau merengek skit, boleh peluk2 tepuk2 je kan... Bile betul lena, baru lah alih balik Zaim to his cot. When he reached 15months, we moved him to kid-bed. Tapi, mase nak tido tu, he still prefer my bed; nangis2 tanak tido katil dia... So nak senang keje, tidokan dlu kat katil Mommy then alih... Sampai ke besar camni... But in the middle of the nite, kalau terjaga, mestiiiii crawl naik katil Mommy menyempit... 3 kali bangun, 3 kali lah naik... 3 kali jugak lah Mommy alih balik ke katil dia...
Different with Zaim, Aariz prefer his own bed. He just need his blanket and milk, and am done. Lepas breastfeed, letak je dalam cot. Memang senang cerita. So am not worried too much about Aariz sleeping in separate room. Cuma kene pastikan buat susu cepat2 skit so that dia tak ngamuk hehehe...
However, last year I managed to teach Zaim to sleep in his own bed. He finally accepts that everyone have their own bed except Mommy share with Babah. tQ to Aariz jugaklah, sebab jadi role model untuk Zaim... ;) End of sleep sharing story, and we are ready to new mission; Sleep in separate room!
THE INTRO
Zaim memang cerewet and sensitive skit. He knows what he want and what he doesn't. So memang kene hati-hati skit kalau nak introduce something new to him... Silap teknik sampai forever dia akan say No!... So what I did a few months before we move is, slowly introduce the concept of 'own room' to Zaim. Actually masa kat Puncak Jalil, I had set up a very basic room for him to play... Tapi skit2 je, just untuk sesuaikan diri dia with his room. I put his favorite books and toy in his room.. So he like to spend his time main dalam bilik... Time ni memang bilik dia kosong and too basic... I keep promise to him, later I will decorate his room nicely... Zaim ni suke kalau kite promise2 dlu, bagi dia imagine this and that, rather than give surprise... I also showed him sample of boys room, IKEA catalog and anything that relates to bedroom to him... I took note his opinion too on how he likes his room to be...
THE ROOM
So... tadaaaa... here is the room. Simple je sebab budget pun cinonet hehe.. But enough to make the boys love their room.
The themes are ‘Green and Blue’ and ‘Transportation’.
Why ‘Green and Blue’? Hahaha simply because that are Zaim’s favorite colors! Tanyelah Zaim ape2 pun nak kaler ape? Pasti jawapan dia ‘Green and Blue’… Even kalo kite tanye, ‘Zaim nak kuih ape?’ Mesti dia jawab ‘I want karipap green and blue’… Hahah over kan? ;P Hurm.. sib baik jugak Aariz tak kenal color and tak pandai cakap lagi.. Kot sorang nak Green and Blue sorg nak Yellow and Red… tak ke haru… Hahaah…
And we finally decided to choose ‘Transportation’ theme selepas beberape lame fikir sedalam-dalamnye… Zaim and Aariz memang addicted to Transportation… Hatta sampan kayu pun boleh bulat mata mereka berdua ni… Betul tau tak tipu… Tak caya cuba buat sampan kertas tu bagi kat diorg… ;P Tengokla betapa jakun nanti mereka tu…
For this room, I purposely try my best to minimize the furniture so that the room tak padat. Bilik kecik je kan... For decoration, I feel lucky to found this transportation sticker. Hehe nak buat wall paper mahal bebenor… Mimpi la duit turun dari langit…
Lagi best bile jumpe kain ni untuk buat curtain and bedding. Kebetulan sgt ade kain ni… Matching sgt theme kami! Berkat dengar kata suami…. Hihi… Actually memula I nak beli cop Ikea je, senang ready made, but my hubby not Ikea-man sometimes… Dia kata banyak lagi choice yang berbaloi kat KL… Si wifey ini pun mencabar la si suami... So we went to Jalan TAR...Turun naik macam macam kedai kain… Finally we found this at Globe! Cheap, thick and cute! Puas hati… ;)

We limit the toys in this room. So tampak kemas skit lah dalam bilik kan… Sebabnye kalo diorg main, memang tak nampak lantai berterabur semua… Lemas mataku… So half main la kat hall depan bilik je or kat main hall downstair, although they do get hauled all over the house, it makes it easier to clean up and keep things organized.

Selain dari kene charge handfon, adelah wajib jugak kene ingat untuk charge baby monitor... Kalau tak, alamat kene berkampung lah kat bilik mereka...

THE PROGRESS
Alhamdulillah, mission berjaya… Sejak dari pindah, both of them sleep in their own room. Mommy je yang memula taleh tido… Aariz eeekkk skit je, Mommy dah berlari ke bilik diorg… Padahal bukan nangis btul pun... Whole nite asik tenung je baby monitor tu… Tapi after a week dah okay. Dah mule nak biase..
First few weeks, they both sleep well all nite long, except past few days ni Zaim ade terbangun tgh mlm, crying for me. So I accompany him until he fall asleep again in his room... Aariz still like usual. He just need his milk and then tidooo balik. But I think sometimes Zaim miss to sleep with me; adelah juge beberapa kali he do come to my room in early morning cuddling me in my bed a few minutes before get ready to school... Layan kan jelah ;)
THE TIPS
- Don't force your kids to sleep in their room. Bukan ape, takot diorg terase left out ke ape ke kan. Kids kan sensitif and tak suke kene paksa.. So pujuk and umpan2 mereka so that they are happy with their room and willing to sleep there...
- Set up the room mengikut minat anak-anak; bukan minat sendiri.. Hehe... Bukan ape, brg2 kids mmg comel! Geram.. Kadang2 nak jugak beli walopun tau anak tak minat sgt... ;P So kene set in mind, the room is for them not for us... Lagi elok, letak sekali favorite toy nearby their bed. So macam ade geng tido gitu... Macam Zaim, nak tido, dia tidokan Audi dia, cat dia, Mater dia, sume dah tersusun tido baru dia nak tido...
- Make sure the room is safe. So in case they wake up main tengah2 malam ke, tade ape yang bahaya or boleh buat diorg injured.
- Baby monitor is a must! Sebab my room and their room agak jauh jugak.. Kot la tak dengar kan... Kesian plak nanti nangis lame-lame... Lagi cepat datang bile kids menangis malam lagi elok, so dia tau Mommy is always around... Tiap2 pagi bagun tido kene terus charge...
- Make sure the kids comfort with room temperature. Aariz kene sejuk skit malam2 sebab kalau tak cukup sejuk dia berpeluh sampai basah baju and katil... Padahal dah bukak aircond and kipas tau.. So kene sejukkan skit.. Since Zaim plak sejuk malam-malam, so dia tido pakai socks coz he hates blanket.
- Make sure pintu tutup rapat. Memula rase macam tanak tutup pintu rapat, tapi seriau plak kot diorg mengigau ke turun tangga mamai-mamai ke... So for me, I feel more confident kalau pintu tutup rapat. Memang dah pasang safety gate kat tangga tapi Zaim mmg pandai bukak both pintu and gate tu.. Risau kot Aariz join sekali... So kalau pintu tutup lambat skit lah diorg nak sampai ke tangga... In case Aariz je bangun tgh malam pun, dia akan safe inside the room...
- Keep the room dark... Hahah ini memang opposite lah, orang kate biarkan bilik ade lampu skit kan, at least lampu tido.. Bukan ape, kalau selagi ade lampu, memang lah tak tdo diorg ni... So memang harap lampu jiran belakang rumah je yang tembus ke langsir tu...
- Yang penting sekali, mak bapak tolong jangan tido mati lak ek... ;P Jangan lupe anak di bilik lain tu..
And 2011, finally bleh la Mommy berdua-dua ngan Babah in our room… Ahaks!;P
